I had seen a Northern Flicker attending to a nest on this old stump. About five minutes after leaving this area I found this juvenile Northern Goshawk in another tree. He or she soon flew over to this tree with the flicker nest and sat there about ten minutes. The flicker was very agitated as it appeared as though the raptor was aware of the nest and meal inside.
Male American Redstart and Cerulean
I was trying so hard to spot a Cerulean at Doodletown. In taking this photo I was only aware of the American Redstart (I had absolutely no idea the Cerulean was in the picture as well). It was amazing to get the Cerulean in this picture and find out after-the-fact.

Juvenile Northern Waterthrush

Northern Rough-winged Swallow
Despite two summer birding trips well past the spring migration, we saw quite a few birds. Also, I did mention we saw the nesting Mississippi Kites at Sterling Forest State Park, NY. It was fun to watch the kites and their ability to maneuver with pinpoint precision through the air. They are very acrobatic birds in flight! This pair of kites can currently be observed at the upper parking area at Sterling State Forest visitor center.
